1. Introduction
===============================================================================
This guide was created because there are a lot of important gameplay elements
that aren't mentioned in the manual or are hard to figure out if the player
can't read Japanese.
There's really not that many different moves in the game. A lot of moves are
not character-specific and are used by several characters. For example:
Starscream and Wheeljack have the same moves in robot mode except for their
special attacks. So far I haven't noticed any of the characters having the
exact same moveset.
I've found that knowing most of the moves and putting the useful moves to good
use is important to having fun with this game. If the player tries to mash on
the buttons, it's highly likely that the enemies will use moves that counter
whatever the player does. I hope this guide helps people have more fun with
this game.
Note: When referring to names in this FAQ, US names are used first followed by
the Japanese name.
For example: Optimus Prime/Convoy

2. Starting Notes And Advice
===============================================================================
The entire game can be set to English by changing the setting in the options
menu. Everything, text, subtitles character names, character profiles, etc.
will be in English (except for typos). To view the English version of the game
intro, you must change the setting and then game over (there's no other way to
back out to the intro after changing the options).
Even though this is a Japan-only game, all the character voices are only
available in English. Most of the character voices are based on the English
version of the show. You can tell by the way most of the the characters sound
plus the Autobots/Cybertrons have processed voices and the Decepticons/Destrons
don't sound like they're underwater. They did an amazing job on some of the
voices while not so great on others. Megatron's is almost good, except that
he... talks... so... slow-ly....
I've noticed the voice acting of some characters (like Optimus Prime/Convoy)
get better later in the game. I know it's not because I'm getting used to it,
because they sound worst after I beat the game and I start a new lap through
the game.
If you're playing the game for the first time, I recommend playing through
Story Mode with the Autobots/Cybertrons first. The game is much easier when
playing as a character that transforms into a land vehicle.
There are also some traps in the Decepticons/Destrons Story Mode that make it
harder and possibly frustrating if you're not experienced with the game.
Try to collect as many Energon Cubes as you can and use them to to upgrade
characters you think you're going to stick with. If you use up Energon Cubes
to upgrade too many characters, the game may be excessively difficult in the
later stages. Upgraded characters are useless if you don't use them.
===============================================================================
3. Screen Information
===============================================================================
There are three gauges at the top of the screen.
HP: Indicates how much damage the player's character can take. This can be
recharged by collecting Repair power ups. Repair power ups look like prisms
and are sometimes dropped by defeated enemies and destroyed boxes.
SC: Located in-between the HP and EP gauges is the Spark Combo gauge.
SC gauges are built up by dealing damage to enemies. Up to 3 gauges can be
stored at once. The player can perform a Spark Combo.
EP: Indicates how much Energy the player has for special attacks, being
transformed, and attacking while transformed. This is recharged by hitting
enemies with normal attacks in Robot mode or by collecting Supply power ups.
Supply power ups are orb-shaped and are sometimes dropped by defeated enemies
and destroyed boxes.

4. Controls
===============================================================================
Movement Commands (Most movement commands also work when transformed.)
/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
Walk Forward: directional button: UP
left analog stick: UP lightly

Run Forward: directional button: double-tap & hold UP
left analog stick: hold UP all the way
Note: It's a lot easier to run by moving with the left analog stick.

Turn Left/Right: directional button: LEFT/RIGHT
left analog stick: LEFT/RIGHT

Back Up: directional button: DOWN
left analog stick: DOWN

Turn Towards Enemy Or Breakable Object
(Robot, car, and animal modes only.
This doesn't work with trucks, jets, guns, etc.):
directional button/left analog stick: double-tap DOWN or L3 (Apply downward
pressure to the left analog stick until it clicks.).
Note: Useful in car mode because it allows cars to turn around quickly
without having to move forward or backward.

Change Altitude (Jet modes only):
directional button/left analog stick: UP/DOWN
\-----------------------------------------------------------------------------/
Robot Mode Button Commands
/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
Transform: SQUARE

Punch: TRIANGLE (Punches and kicks can be linked into combos if they make
contact with enemies/objects.
A single punch attack can be done while jumping.)

Kick: CIRCLE (Punches and kicks can be linked into combos if they make
contact with enemies or objects.
A single kick attack can be done while jumping.)
Note: I find that kicks are more effective than punches because they're
usually faster and have longer range, but do less damage.

Special Attack: TRIANGLE+CIRCLE (Uses EP.)
(Characters go through all attacks while performing a special attack.)

Jump: X (Press X again to double-jump.)

Block: hold L1

Shoot With Gun: Hold R1 to lock-on and press TRIANGLE or CIRCLE to fire

Pick Up Enemy Or Object: R2
\-----------------------------------------------------------------------------/
Transformed Mode Button Commands (Being transformed slowly drains EP.)
/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
Transform: SQUARE

Attack 1: TRIANGLE (Uses EP.)

Attack 2: CIRCLE (Uses EP.)

Advanced Commands (Robot Mode only)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Punch Variation 1: UP+TRIANGLE

Punch Variation 2: DOWN+TRIANGLE

Kick Variation 1: UP+CIRCLE

Kick Variation 2: DOWN+CIRCLE

Running Attack 1: TRIANGLE after running for a second or two

Running Attack 2: CIRCLE after running for a second or two

Spark Combo: With at least 1 SC gauge charged, hold TRIANGLE or CIRCLE until
the bar is full and release when in range of an enemy. SC gauges are also
charged and can be triggered when TRIANGLE and/or CIRCLE are pressed rapidly.

Double-Team Spark Combo: Hit an enemy with a regular attack at the same time
as one of your partners who has an SC gauge built up. (This is based on what
I can read in the manual and what I've noticed in gameplay. I haven't noticed
anyway to check partners' SC.) *Not confirmed

Counter: TRIANGLE or CIRCLE just as you're hit (Must be facing the enemy.)

Sidestep: Any direction on the directional button/left analog stick+X

Energy Burst: Quickly rotate the directional button or the left analog stick
360 degrees and press TRIANGLE or CIRCLE
This move sends out an energy wave that knocks down surrounding enemies.
Consumes a little EP.
Notes: This move is important for destroying large boxes because it destroys
them with one hit while they would take several normal attacks to destroy.
This move can also be used to knockdown nearby enemies after getting up.
Easier to perform with the directional button.
Characters are invincible to almost all attacks while performing this move.
When playing through the game on Hard with a character that's not very good,
I tend to use this move repeatedly, in nearly every situation.

Other Controls
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pause: START

Change Formation Menu: SELECT (Formation can be changed on this menu by
pressing the L1/L2 and R1/R2 buttons.)

Move Camera Close/Far: R3 (apply pressure to the right analog stick until it
clicks)

Temporarily Move The Camera: Move the right analog stick (Camera returns when
the right analog stick is released.)

/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
Jazz/Meister: Robot Mode
Special Attack: TRIANGLE+CIRCLE (Uses EP.)

Soundwave
/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
Soundwave: Robot Mode
Special Attack: TRIANGLE+CIRCLE (Uses EP.)
Eject
Soundwave presses his eject button and launches Laserbeak from his chest.
Acts like a short-range projectile. This move can only hit 1 enemy per use so
it's limited in its usefulness. On the plus side, this move uses less EP than
most special attacks so this move can be used a lot after Soundwave is
upgraded.
Note: Soundwave points after launching Laserbeak. If you adjust the camera
during this move, you can see Laserbeak in cassette mode in Soundwave's tray.
Laserbeak "pops" into bird mode when he's launched. It's hard to tell what

7. Spoiler Warning
===============================================================================
I recommend completing the game once before reading the next 2 sections because
they may spoil some cool surprises. The story finally picks up at stage 5.
The following 2 sections contain move lists for characters that are unlocked as
the game progresses. When you complete certain stages, a new character will
show up and join your team. If you go through the game a second time with a
side you already beat the game with, you will unlock another set of characters.
I'm not sure if the character that unlocked is different depending on the game
settings. I think I unlocked a certain character on my second time through
Normal/Hard, but got the character on my first time through when I played a new
game on Easy.

When playing the game a second time with a faction you've already completed
the game with, the story will be a little different and different characters
will be unlocked.
Each time after the second seems to be the same story as the second time, but
no characters are unlocked.
Here are some of the story changes I've noticed:
Autobots/Cybertrons
/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
The boss of Stage 5, will be 4 Optimus Prime Clones/Black Convoys.

In the post-Stage 5 cut-scene, Hot Rod/Hot Rodimus, Arcee, and Kup/Char will
come out from the back and join the Decepticons/Destrons even though they've
been selectable since the start of the second time through (same thing occurs
even if you're playing with them as your party). No explanation is given as
to where they came from or how/why they're doing in that time period.

After the post-Stage 5 cut-scene, Hot Rod/Hot Rodimus is unlocked.

Instead of Rodimus Prime/Rodimus Convoy, Arcee, and Kup/Char coming from the
future because of the threat of the Zel Quarts, they learn of it from a
message capsule from the future that was sent by the Quintessons (the player
doesn't get to see the actual message).
\-----------------------------------------------------------------------------/
Decepticons/Destrons
/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
Playing as the Decepticons/Destrons, at the end of Stage 5, Wheeljack will
warp in with 4 Megatron Clones. After the Megatron Clones are defeated
(Wheeljack doesn't fight in the boss battle), Wheeljack retreats and drops
a capsule.

In the post-Stage 5 cut-scene, Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge will come out
from the back and join the Decepticons/Destrons even though they've been
selectable since the start of the second time through (same thing occurs even
if you're playing with them as your party). No explanation is given as to
where they came from or how/why they're doing in that time period.

After the post-Stage 5 cut-scene, Dark Hot Rod/Black Rodimus is unlocked.

Unlike the first time through, the situation from the future is explained by
Soundwave, who explains that the capsule Wheeljack dropped contains a message
from the Quintesson in the future.
\-----------------------------------------------------------------------------/
Non-Faction-Specific Changes
/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\
Shockwave's actions in the future are no longer mentioned during the
cut-scenes.
